WORKSHOP OUTLINE

  Culture Change/Culture Lag-Timeline
This small-group activity uses music and visual images from the 1950s to the 2000s to explore the issue of sexual harassment from a historical perspective.

Understanding the Issue - Part One
This exercise encourages participants to reflect on their own definitions/thoughts on sexual harassment and to share their views with others who may have a different perspective.

  Understanding the Issue - Part Two
Teams compete in a fast-moving courtroom game, which is designed to assess their knowledge and understanding of sexual harassment laws.
4.
  Defining Sexual Harassment
This full-group exercise incorporates excerpts/quotes from the EEOC Guidelines, "The Merriam Webster Dictionary," "Rumpole on Trial," Anita Hill, and "Harvard Business Review."
5.
  Case Studies: Actual Court Cases and Workplace Situations
Small groups work together on case studies, which provide concrete examples of the gray areas of sexually harassing behaviors and effective ways to address them.
6.
Developing a Strong Sexual Harassment Policy
Participants discuss their thoughts on the key components of an effective sexual harassment policy. This exercise is debriefed full-group using "The Sexual Harassment Policy Checklist."

  Skill Practice: Workplace Etiquette for the 21st Century
Team members participate in skill-practice sessions that reinforce the importance of using effective communication and conflict resolution skills to ensure a harassment-free workplace.

    What to Expect During a Sexual Harassment Investigation
Reading materials, flow charts, and group discussions are all utilized to ensure participants understand the importance of addressing sexual harassment complaints promptly and appropriately.
9.
  All the Right Moves: Reducing Employer Liability
This energizing game invites participants to pretend that they are employers. The goal of this game is to become one of the "Top Ten Employers in America." Participants are provided with an answer sheet that is used to debrief the game and a flow chart, which is based on the EEOC's "Policy Guide on Sexual Harassment."

  Creating Environments That Are Hostile to Sexual Harassment
This "exclusion exercise" is intended to explore the ripple effects of discrimination on teamwork and productivity.
11.
  A Vision of a New Organization
Participants examine the individual/organizational benefits of creating, and sustaining, productive and respectful workplaces.
12.
  Summary and Close
This workshop summary provides an overview of "Resource Materials" and an "Action Plan" for the future.
